Planning for V-Day: A few tips to help create a healthy tradition on Valentines Day
Another holiday is upon us, and you know what that means; chocolate, candy and unhealthy snacks everywhere you turn. Here are a few tips to make your Valentines day a healthy and happy one.
–If you normally go out on a date to a restaurant, have a “staycation” date at home. Have the kids go to the sitters, and whip up a delicious and nutritious dinner at home (check out our weekly recipe posts for some inspiration). Use your best dishes, light candles and afterwards you and your sweetie can go for a nice walk or curl up and watch a movie (Ladies, maybe you can talk your guy into watching The Notebook, again….).
-If your special someone usually celebrates your love with your favorite “treat” encourage him/her to get your favorite flower or potted plant, write you a simple card or note, and do a chore that the other hates to do.
Lastly, if your sweetie INSISTS on buying chocolates don’t fret. Small amounts of your favorite dark chocolate will not derail your progress completely. Dark chocolate contains healthy fats, (but beware of the sugar content). Make sure to make healthy choices the rest of the day and get back on track as soon as the candles burn out!
