Body Comp Analysis

Go Figure is pleased to be offering  Body Composition Analysis

WHAT IS IT?

We use Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), which uses a safe low-level electrical signal that passes through the body measuring resistance. The signal flows easily through fluids in the muscle and other body tissues but meets resistance as it passes through body fat. The resistance is called impedance. The impedance readings are then entered into medically researched mathematical formulas to calculate your body composition.

WHY MONITOR YOUR BODY COMPOSITION?

Monitoring your body composition gives you insight into key health indicators that will enable you to monitor the impact of changes to your lifestyle. If you obtain a BIA reading from the start and throughout your program, you can see first hand the impact on your health that your lifestyle changes have provided.

WHO CAN USE BIA?

BIA is intended for adults aged 18 and up. Children and those under 18 are not recommended due to their changing and growing bodies. Pregnant women and anyone with a pacemaker or other medically implanted devices are not allowed to use BIA.

WHAT BIA ISN'T

BIA is not intended to diagnose or treat any disease or abnormalities. The readings provided are for informational purposes only and are used as a baseline or general guide for those working toward their health and weight loss goals.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO PRIOR TO MY BIA TESTING?

In order to obtain the most accurate results, proper protocol must be followed. Please schedule your appointment when you can adhere to the following recommendations:

  • No alcohol 48 hours before the test.
  • Avoid intense exercise 12 hours before the test.
  • Avoid eating or drinking (especially caffeine) 4 hours before the test.
  • Empty your bladder immediately prior to the test.
  • Avoid all diuretic medications for 7 days before the test (only if possible).
  • Test at least 3 hours after waking.
  • Pre-menstrual women may retain fluid, which can affect the outcome of the test.
  • Soles of your feet must be clean in order to obtain proper reading

OTHER FACTS ABOUT BIA

Significant changes in body water may affect your readings.  Eating large meals, drinking alcohol, menstruation, illness, exercising, and bathing may cause variations in hydration levels.  Readings are best taken without clothing, but can be taken while wearing light clothing.  It is recommended to monitor progress over time and compare several BIA results taken under similar conditions to see a better overall picture of the impact of your lifestyle changes.
